60 Boston Area High School Seniors Become Posse Scholars

Spring 2014 | Boston

On January 9, 2014, Posse Boston welcomed 60 new Scholars from the Greater Boston area during the annual Awards Ceremony, sponsored by Putnam Investments for the seventh consecutive year. Before a crowd of more than 400 guests at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel, these exceptional students received full-tuition leadership scholarships from Posse Boston’s six partner colleges and universities.

At a pre-ceremony reception, Jamie Hoyte, a Posse Boston Advisory Board member, and Stephen Denny, the director of diversity and inclusion at Putnam Investments, highlighted Posse Scholars who excel on campus and in the workforce. One such Scholar was Denison University senior Ana Morales who was recently elected student body president.

“I am here because Posse invested in my education,” Ana said. “I received an opportunity, I ran with it and took from it as much as I could.”

Before awards were presented to the new Scholars, First Lady of Massachusetts Diane Patrick, a member of The Posse Foundation National Board of Directors, spoke about the unique support system Posse provides to students like Ricardo Ortiz and Joao Depina Monteiro, seniors at John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science who lead as co-captains of their basketball team. Both will attend Centre College in the fall.

“We are incredibly proud of this group of exceptional students and we look forward to supporting them throughout their journey with Posse over the next four years,” said Lamont Gordon, then the director of Posse Boston and now an associate vice president for The Posse Foundation.
