Theory of Leadership

As the United States becomes increasingly diverse, the evolving national discourse about identity, bias and power creates both new demands and new opportunities for companies, institutions and communities. There is a need to more effectively develop multicultural teams that can build consensus solutions to complex organizational and social problems.

Posse’s Theory of Leadership asserts that individuals who think about how identity relates to decision-making become stronger leaders—in the office, in the boardroom, in the classroom, on campus and in the world at large.

What is Posse Consulting?

Posse Consulting represents more than 30 years of experience cultivating and developing diverse leaders and multicultural teams. Drawing on this expertise, we work with professionals across industry and sector to successfully promote integrated diversity, foster cross-cultural communication, create inclusive spaces and develop leaders.

Our Approach

Posse’s Theory of Leadership is at the core of our consulting work and is the reason we are uniquely positioned to support community development and cultural change across a variety of sectors. Our work empowers participants to engage the big issues — race, ethnicity, socioeconomic class, gender, and sexuality — and asks how companies, institutions and communities can promote diversity, strive for equity, and build inclusive culture. Whether it’s a group of 200 or a small team of 10, our diverse, experienced facilitators combine catalytic activities with in-depth discussion. The result is an experience that builds community through dialogue that is spontaneous, honest and authentic.

“I’ve never seen a retreat—including a wide range of media and activities—better managed for purposeful learning.”

Jonathan Burdick, Vice Provost for Enrollment Initiatives, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid
Whether you're starting from scratch or expanding, we can help you build inclusive student and professional programs for the community of leaders that you serve. We'll work with you to shape the program start to finish and provide support along the way to ensure your continued success.
Many of our clients come to us in search of innovative content and curriculum to add to their strong, robust programming. Our team can design engaging curriculum in support of your organizational goals and objectives around diversity, equity and inclusion. We'll deliver a curriculum specific to the needs of your community and offer train-the-trainer style facilitation workshops so you can hit the ground running.
From boardrooms to classrooms, we offer day-long immersion events and multiple-day retreats that spur engagement and in-depth discussion on a topic relevant to your community. Guided by our facilitators, these events provide participants the time and space to dig deep into the issues and questions, explore and draw from current scholarship, and be intentionally in dialogue with one another as a community.
