Posse Alumni Convene for Leadership Conference

Fall 2023 | National

On September 23rd, Posse alumni gathered virtually for the 15th Annual National Posse Alumni Leadership Conference. The Conference provided opportunities for alumni to connect with Posse Career and Graduate Program partners and participate in professional and leadership development sessions.

The event featured a special armchair interview with Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel, facilitated by Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial. Bancel, who oversaw the biopharma gaint’s efforts to create an effective COVID-19 vaccine, offered alumni in attendance a glimpse into his background, professional philosophy and goals for the future of Moderna.

“Their impact is going to multiply throughout the world, and I feel lucky to have a hand in that.”

Nearly 20 of Posse’s graduate school and fellowship affiliates presented at the Conference. These included Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Information Systems & Public Policy, Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, The Schwarzman Scholars program, the Critical Language Scholarship Program, Stanford’s Knight-Hennessy Scholars, The Princeton Review, the Boren Awards, Teachers College at Columbia University, The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans, Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and D’Amore-McKim School of Business, the McCall MacBain Scholarship, Yale School of the Environment, George Washington University School of Business, the Fulbright US Student Program, the Pickering Fellowship, the Payne Fellows and Rangel Program.

Posse Career Program partners Deloitte, Visa, Goldman Sachs, Paramount, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Deutsche Bank, PWC and WTW hosted virtual “booth” breakout sessions that offered tips for success and opportunities for networking.

The conference also featured leadership development workshops facilitated by alumni who are leading in their fields. These sessions included presentations on “Customizing Your Career” led by Brandeis University alum Usman Hameedi, “Public Speaking” led by Trinity College alum Jennifer Zhang, and “Applying to Graduate STEM Programs” led by Colby College alum Sarah Martinez-Roth, the winner of last year’s Ainslie Alumni Achievement Award.

The Ainslie Award is given each year at the conclusion of the Alumni Leadership Conference to one outstanding Posse alum who has demonstrated incredible leadership and success while giving back to the world. This year’s honoree was Babson College Posse alum Kadia Tubman.

Kadia is the former global managing editor for diversity, equity and inclusion at Business Insider. She currently teaches journalism at Columbia University and Hunter College.

“I hope I am teaching the next generation of journalists to be the type of people that can be trusted,” Kadia said in her honoree video. “Their impact is going to multiply throughout the world, and I feel lucky to have a hand in that.”

In conjunction with the virtual conference, each of Posse’s 10 brick-and-mortar offices hosted in-person alumni gatherings. These celebrations brought together over 500 alumni for networking and reconnecting.

Posse thanks Deloitte and CBRE who sponsored the live events and virtual conference.
