Golden State Warriors Host New Posse Scholars for Game Day

Spring 2022 | Bay Area

The newest class of Scholars from Posse Bay Area kicked off 2022 as special guests at a Golden State Warriors home game this past January. The night also included unique networking opportunities with professionals in the sports industry.

Tickets were generously donated through a partnership between the Golden State Warriors, 2K, and MENTOR California in honor of National Mentoring Month 2022. Established in 2002, National Mentoring Month was created by MENTOR to provide support for young people and to train mentors as they help shape the next generation.

We hope to continue our partnership with the Warriors, not only as a mentoring program but also as a career partner.

After a backstage tour of the arena and VIP areas, Posse Scholars attended a panel discussion and Q&A featuring professionals from the sports management industry, including retired Warriors center and current operations consultant Zaza Pachulia. The panel then matched each Scholar with a professional mentor, forming shadowing pairs in which students were able to discuss potential careers in sports management.

“It was a great event for Scholars to hear about the importance of mentorship and be exposed to different careers in the sports industry, especially from a home-grown team that’s so beloved in the Bay Area,” says Posse Bay Area Director Damali Burton. “In coming years, we hope to continue our partnership with the Warriors, not only as a mentoring program but also as a career partner.”

At halftime, the incoming Posse Scholars were featured on the arena Jumbotron to highlight their accomplishments and college-bound paths with the Posse Program.
