Davidson, Hamilton, Mt. Holyoke Alum Impact Education as TFA Fellows
Three Miami Posse alumni are answering the call to serve as educators through the Teach For America (TFA) fellowship program. They bring leadership, resilience, and a passion for equity into classrooms across the country.
Hamilton College alum Katlynn Leon and Mount Holyoke College alum Qiana Pierre will begin their TFA journeys this summer with virtual training. Marissa Meyer, an alum of Davidson College, started her fellowship last year and is currently teaching at Goulds Elementary School in Homestead, Florida.
Leon was encouraged to explore TFA by her Posse Career Coach following a formative summer internship with Main Street Players, a local theater camp in Miami Lakes, Florida. The unpaid position became possible thanks to the Posse Summer Leadership Award, which she applied for and received upon recommendation from her Posse Trainer.
Pierre brings extensive experience working with youth, particularly in STEM education. After witnessing the challenges many students face—such as low literacy rates and high levels of need—she was inspired to pursue a teaching career. She was drawn to TFA’s built-in support systems, which group fellows into geographic cohorts and provide mentorship from local educators—paralleling the structure and community-based model of the Posse program.
Meyer discovered her passion for education policy while studying political science at Davidson College. Though she ultimately hopes to influence the education system through policymaking, her coursework revealed a gap between policy decisions and the lived experiences of educators. To better understand those realities, she chose to begin her career in the classroom.
Posse alumni bring invaluable strengths to the TFA program. Their experience navigating the Posse Dynamic Assessment Process prepared them for TFA’s rigorous selection process. Their cross-cultural fluency and commitment to equity position them to be effective educators and community leaders in their respective districts.
Leon will teach in Tampa, Florida, Pierre in Texas, and Meyer will continue her work in Homestead.
The Posse Foundation is proud to support alumni who are helping shape the future of education through their dedication and service.
