New York Honors Newman’s Own Foundation, Raises Close to $100K

Winter 2017 | New York

In October 2016, Posse New York celebrated its annual Power of 10 event at the Housing Works Bookstore Café. The event raised nearly $100,000 and honored Newman’s Own Foundation for its commitment to education, diversity and leadership.

Newman’s Own Foundation has supported The Posse Foundation since 2010. In addition to contributions to Posse totaling more than $600,000, Posse alumni have the opportunity to participate in the Newman’s Own Foundation Fellowship program, launched in 2015. This year-long program has provided 12 Posse alumni with real-world experience in the non-profit sector in addition to leadership training.

The event program recognized the strength of Posse’s dynamic Scholars and celebrated diversity and leadership in higher education and the workforce. Babson College Posse Alumnus Shatiek Gatlin, a financial leadership associate at Nielsen, shared his experience as the first in his family to attend college.

“As I reflect on my experience at Babson, being a Posse Scholar made all the difference. A path that seemed uncharted was actually paved with compasses from day one,” Shatiek said. “When people think of Posse, they think of a scholarship and opportunity. And although it is that and so much more, when I think of Posse, I think of family—a family that so many first-gen students yearn for when they step foot on unfamiliar territory.”
