Director of Volunteer Management - National

The The National Director of Volunteer Management will lead a national strategy to manage and strengthen volunteer engagement across Posse. The purpose of this role is to refine the Posse volunteer model and create a world-class experience for every volunteer.

The National Director of Volunteer Management will work with staff across Posse’s national office and local sites to ensure volunteers are meaningfully engaged, effectively supported, and connected to Posse’s mission and Scholars. This individual will play a critical role in identifying and implementing best practices, technology, processes, communications strategies, and training that enhance volunteer recruitment and retention.

The National Director of Volunteer Management reports to the Associate Vice President of Career, Alumni, Graduate and Fellowship Programs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a national volunteer engagement and stewardship strategy that strengthens volunteer participation and long-term involvement across the organization
  • Create and maintain operational systems, processes, and best practices that support a consistent, efficient, and world-class volunteer experience
  • Identify, implement, and manage technology platforms and tools that improve volunteer recruitment, onboarding, communication, tracking, scheduling, stewardship, and reporting
  • Partner cross-functionally with local Posse sites and national teams to align volunteer communications, expectations, and engagement strategies
  • Develop systems and strategies to increase volunteer recruitment, retention, and satisfaction nationally
  • Train and support Posse staff on volunteer management best practices
  • Create and maintain volunteer communication calendars, templates, resources, and toolkits to support consistent messaging across sites
  • Analyze volunteer engagement data and develop reports, benchmarks, and recommendations to improve volunteer participation and experience
  • Support the planning and execution of volunteer-facing events, trainings, orientations, and recognition initiatives
  • Collaborate with development staff to identify, engage, and steward volunteers as potential donors, advisory board members, event supporters, and advocates for Posse’s mission
  • Ensure volunteers feel connected to Posse’s mission, students, and broader community through thoughtful stewardship and engagement
  • Travel to Posse sites and national events as needed

Qualities/Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in volunteer management, stakeholder engagement, nonprofit management, or related fields preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Detail oriented with strong operational and project management skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Collaborative and solutions-oriented approach to work
  • Proactive, adaptable, and highly motivated
  • Demonstrated ability to create systems and improve organizational processes
  • Systems oriented. Experience implementing or managing CRM systems, volunteer platforms, or engagement technology preferred
  • Demonstrated belief in Posse’s mission and values
  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and discretion
  • Willing and able to travel
  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred
