Posse Honors Entergy’s Commitment to Education

Winter 2015 | New Orleans

The 2014 Posse New Orleans Power of 10 fundraising event honored Entergy Corporation for its outstanding commitment to education in the community. Leo P. Denault, Entergy’s chairman and chief executive officer, accepted the award on the company’s behalf at an elegant cocktail reception attended by Posse supporters from the New Orleans community.

“When you get to the heart of the matter, it all starts with education: education unlocks opportunity,” said Leo. “Education has been the cornerstone of Entergy’s charitable contributions for nearly 15 years. Today, it is the single largest recipient of Entergy’s community programs. And Posse holds a special place in our hearts.”

Entergy began its relationship with The Posse Foundation in 2011, when the New Orleans chapter opened its doors, and has now signed on to become the chapter’s first Career Program partner. Posse Scholars who attend Bard College, Grinnell College and Tulane University will have the support of Entergy for various leadership development and career programming opportunities.

“Entergy is one of Posse New Orleans’ biggest champions,” says Posse New Orleans Director Monica Sylvain. “We are extremely grateful to them and Posse’s many existing and new supporters who stepped up this year to invest in the futures of New Orleans students.”

The Power of 10 event also featured remarks from Amberine Huda, a Posse alumna from Los Angeles who graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She relocated to New Orleans for a teaching position through Teach For America and is currently the manager of teacher-leadership development for the Greater New Orleans region.

“Stepping into college with my Posse was beautiful, hard, and helped pave the way for me to achieve and to lead,” said Amerbine. “[As a special education teacher], I wanted to provide the kind of community for my students that allowed them to feel safe, loved, and able to nurture their potential future with an excellent education. Having the right space and moments to cultivate their passion for learning and success was what led my classes to be called Posses.”
