Trinity Alum Joins Arizona State Government, Leads Policy Operations

Spring 2023 | Chicago

Anthony Davis, a Posse alum of Trinity College, was recruited by the newly elected governor of Arizona, Katie Hobbs, as the senior operations advisor. In this role, Anthony will manage 37 state agencies, working to ensure that they are achieving their mission, vision, and charge to the people of Arizona.

It’s been a quick change for Anthony, who was living in Chicago until moving to Phoenix recently for this position. He says that when he got the call to move to Phoenix, he jumped on it because "opportunity seldom knocks twice."

So much of this work is about prioritizing everyday people–people who look like me and are so often overlooked in these systems.

Anthony points to his background in political science—with both a BA and MA in public policy from Trinity College—and his experience working for Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont as the reasons he was tapped for this critical role. His focus will be on aligning state operations with the priorities set out by Governor Hobbs. His responsibilities will include crisis prevention and management.

"This is a gift and an honor to be doing the people’s work in the people’s building," says Anthony. "So much of this work is about prioritizing everyday people–people who look like me and are so often overlooked in these systems."

Anthony is committed to creating systemic change in policy and government services to help advance marginalized communities.

Reflecting on the role of Posse in his rapid progression to state leadership, Anthony says, "It was through Posse that I got to travel abroad during my time at Trinity and meet Angel Perez who helped me land an internship, which led to a fellowship, which led to a full-time job. Posse also connected me to Rob Kaye, my Career Coach at Deloitte. Posse catalyzed it all."
