Trinity Alum Directs Diversity & Inclusion at U. of New Haven

Winter 2017 | Chicago

Juan Hernandez, a 2013 graduate of Trinity College, is the new director of diversity and inclusion at the University of New Haven. He will be helping to launch the university’s Student Center for Diversity and Inclusion.

“Trinity’s office of multicultural affairs was one of the places on campus that I went to feel comfortable and was crucial for my development,” says Juan. “I want to be able to build inclusive spaces like I had to make sure all students can persist and graduate from college.”

As an undergraduate, Juan was vice president of multicultural affairs, co-chair of the Men of Color Alliance and president of La Voz Latina, a student-run organization that increased awareness and involvement in Latino culture, politics and social issues.

“The experiences I had while on campus at Trinity very much helped to shape my career goals and interest in higher education,” says Juan.

Juan received his master’s degree in public policy from Trinity in 2015 with a concentration in education policy.
