Scholars Explore Industry-Leading Companies in Boston

This winter, Posse Boston held its first Companies in Action Day. The event gave Scholars a behind-the-scenes look at top companies in the Boston area.

As part of the program, students spent a day at one of six industry-leading organizations: Acadian Asset Management, Biogen, Massachusetts General Hospital, PwC, the Red Sox Foundation or Vertex Pharmaceuticals. More than 25 Scholars participated in the visits, which were designed to be interactive and tailored to their interests.

The day included office and lab tours, roundtable discussions, participation in meetings and company presentations. Scholars had the opportunity to speak with industry professionals and learn about jobs and internships offered in each field.

At Vertex, Scholars interacted with members of the legal team in a career panel discussion that featured Chief Risk and Compliance Officer Damian Wilmot and Senior Director and Assistant General Counsel Abim Thomas. During the panel, students asked the legal professionals about their experience in biopharmaceutical law.

“The career panel was a great opportunity for our legal team to connect with such a talented group of students,” says Abim. “As a woman of color, it was important to me personally to share my career journey and encourage the students to pursue opportunities that match their tremendous potential. We are proud to partner with Posse to help build a more inclusive talent pipeline for the next generation of innovators and leaders.”

Scholars left Companies in Action Day with a better understanding of the inner workings of businesses in Boston. Posse Boston looks forward to expanding this successful event in 2020.
