Power of 10 Event Honors Mabie Family

Winter 2013 | Chicago

In October, nearly 300 guests celebrated Posse’s young leaders at Posse Chicago’s seventh annual Power of 10 fundraiser at the Chicago Cultural Center. The event raised more than $280,000 and honored the Mabie family for their commitment to education and youth in the city of Chicago.

Martin J. Koldyke, a close family friend of the Mabie family and an education pioneer who founded both the Golden Apple Foundation and the Academy for Urban School Leadership, introduced the Mabie family and commended Posse for its role in transforming the educational landscape of the city. He also praised the Mabie family for their lifelong contributions to educational causes.

“When you have a family like this—three generations of caring, deeply devoted folks—it’s really part of the American Dream fulfilled,” said Martin.

Doug Mabie, managing director at Robert W. Baird and a Denison University alumnus, accepted the award on behalf of his family. He spoke about how his family instilled in him and younger generations the importance of giving back.

“A rich life doesn’t present itself unless you get involved and help other people,” said Doug.

Doug has been involved with Posse on multiple levels including supporting Posses at Denison University, helping to start a Career Program partnership with his former employer William Blair & Company, and serving as a mentor to Scholar interns.

“Posse Scholars are remarkable people,” said Doug. “They are real leaders and they make a huge difference in their schools and communities after they graduate."

Advisory Board Chair Mark Taylor closed the evening by thanking the event sponsors and encouraged guests to get involved. This year, over 50 Posse alumni attended the event, making a powerful statement about their commitment to giving back to Posse.

Many thanks to the Mabie family and all the sponsors of the Power of 10 event:
