Posse Scholars Intern As Bank of America Student Leaders

Summer 2017 | Atlanta

Three Posse Atlanta Scholars were selected to participate in the prestigious Bank of America Student Leaders program this past summer.

As Student Leaders, Scholars Jaila Allen, Owen Manning and Citlali Mota were awarded eight-week paid internships at a local nonprofit organization where they learned first-hand about the needs of the Atlanta community. All three Scholars were placed at the East Lake Foundation, an organization established to revitalize the East Lake neighborhood.

“This year, we are thrilled that three of our five Bank of America Student Leaders are also Posse Scholars,” said Daniel J. Shoy, Jr., president of the East Lake Foundation. “These students, recognized for their academic achievement, leadership and civic engagement, are guaranteed to be very successful with us this summer and at the prestigious colleges they will attend in the fall.”

In addition to shadowing the foundation’s executives and working on programming, the Scholars traveled to Washington, D.C., to participate in a leadership summit sponsored by Bank of America. The summit, which gathers student leaders from all over the country, is designed to teach participants how government, business and the nonprofit sector work together to address critical community needs.

Posse Atlanta is grateful for its partnership with Bank of America and is proud to have three Scholars committed to improving the metro Atlanta community.

\"Bank of America invests in pathways to economic mobility, including access to education, in order to create thriving communities,\" said Wendy Stewart, Atlanta market president, Bank of America. \"We're proud to support The Posse Foundation's vital work to provide access to higher education for promising students to succeed in college, especially helping students nurture each other’s success.”

All three Bank of America Student Leaders are beginning college this fall, following completion of Posse’s Pre-Collegiate Training and their summer internships. Jaila, a recent graduate of Drew Charter School, is attending Brandeis University. Owen and Citlali, graduates of Westlake High School and Peachtree Ridge High School, respectively, both matriculated at The George Washington University.
