Winter 2024 | National

Late last year, three Posse Scholars were named Fund For Education Abroad recipients. For Franklin and Marshall Scholar Shayra Nunez, Dickinson Scholar Adriana Healy, and Hobart and William Smith Scholar Shia Wade, the award signified additional financial support to bolster their study abroad experiences. For Posse, the awards signified a fellowship milestone, bringing the total number of nationally competitive fellowships awarded to Scholars and alum to more than 800.

The prestigious list of fellowships awarded to Posse Scholars and alum over the organization’s 35-year history spans competitive awards like the Soros Fellowship, the Marshall Scholarship Program and the Fulbright US Student Program.

The highest awarded fellowship to Posse students, with 269 awards, is the Gilman, a program administered by the department of state that “enables American students to gain proficiency in diverse languages and cultures, skills that are critically important to their academic and career development,” according to its website.

Posse’s notable fellowship winners include Wheaton College alum Derron Wallace, a recent recipient of a Fulbright Scholar Award and of a prestigious NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship. Currently an associate professor of sociology. Currently an associate professor of sociology at Brandeis University, Derron holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Marshall and Gates Cambridge Scholar.
