Posse New York Welcomes New Director Natalie Friedman

Fall 2020 | New York

Posse is delighted to welcome Natalie Friedman as the new director of Posse New York. Natalie’s background includes extensive experience in higher education, with a focus on student wellness and success, and family engagement.

“I look forward to meeting and getting to know Posse Scholars,” Natalie says. “I look forward to talking with them and people across Posse Nation about the value of education in a time of crisis. And how education can, in and of itself, be radical.”

“I look forward to meeting and getting to know Posse Scholars.”

Prior to joining Posse, Natalie spent seven years making significant contributions at Barnard College in New York City. Starting off as dean of studies in 2013, she oversaw the class deans, registrar and New York State-funded Opportunity Programs. In 2018, Natalie became interim dean of the college and established the Office of Family Engagement in an effort to bridge the gap between the institution and students’ families.

Before her time at Barnard, Natalie served as assistant dean of students at New York University, and devoted many years at Vassar College as Director of the school’s Learning, Teaching and Research Center.

Natalie first encountered Posse in 2013 when the Posse Veterans Program was established with Vassar as its first partner school. It was then that she noticed the work Posse was doing on campus at Vassar and beyond.

Natalie holds a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College in English and French, and a doctorate from New York University in English and American Literature.
