Posse New York Celebrates Class of 2024

New York welcomed 123 new Posse Scholars in two Awards Ceremonies at TheTimesCenter this past January. The group of young leaders were awarded more than $25 million in scholarships and were joined at the celebration by family, friends, Posse alumni and college officials.

This year’s Scholars were selected from a pool of more than 3,200 nominees. They have won full-tuition merit scholarships from Posse New York’s 12 partner colleges and universities.

The ceremony incorporated many Posse traditions, including the handing out of white roses, a symbol of new beginnings and the start of a Scholar’s lifelong partnership with Posse and their college community. The evening also featured an “open mic” section, an opportunity for Scholars and their family members to speak.

“I thank Posse for noticing the hard work my daughter has put in these last couple of years, work that could have been easily overlooked,” Kim Emile said when she took the mic. Her daughter, Arielle, is headed to Vanderbilt University this fall. “She is the last one to go to bed and the first one up in the morning. This is her reward, and for that I thank Posse.”

Posse marked its 30th anniversary in 2019. In the 2020 ceremony, Vanderbilt University was once again honored as Posse New York’s longest-standing partnership, recruiting their 31st cohort of Scholars.

After completing eight months of Pre-Collegiate Training, the newest Posse Scholars will matriculate with the Class of 2024 at Babson College, Brandeis University, Connecticut College, DePauw University, Franklin & Marshall College, Lafayette College, Lawrence University, Middlebury College, Smith College, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Vanderbilt University and Wheaton College.
