Posse Houston Welcomes Newest Scholars

Summer 2019 | Houston

This past January, 250 guests gathered at Zilkha Hall in the heart of the city’s theater district for Posse Houston’s annual Awards Ceremony. The event recognized the newest class of Posse Scholar—60 exceptional students selected from across the greater Houston area for full-tuition Posse sScholarships.

With joyful tears in their eyes, Posse Scholars’ families and friends celebrated their students’ achievements, and joined the Posse Houston Advisory Board, staff, university partners, volunteers and community members in welcoming them into the Posse family.

Posse Houston and the city’s college and university partners selected the new Scholars from a pool of more than 1,100 nominees. Over 400 Houston area high schools and community-based organizations submitted nominations, in a mark of Posse’s expanding impact in the city.

New Scholars participate in Posse’s eight-month Pre-Collegiate Training (PCT) program, which fosters academic excellence and cohesion among the Posse groups and prepares Scholars for the challenges of college life. PCT is a critical component of the Posse model and helps to ensure that Scholars succeed on transition smoothly onto campus and go on to graduate.
