Posse Grad Spearheads Latinx Alumni Initiative
Posse graduate Leslie Alas will lead a new Dickinson College alumni initiative centered on empowering and uplifting students. She has been involved with the creation of Dickinson’s first Latinx Alumni Association, a group designed to supporting the college’s Latinx community across its past, present and future.
Throughout college, Leslie always advocated for Latinx students, finding ways to create spaces and opportunities for connection. In her sophomore year, Leslie co-founded the Latinx House, a housing option for Latinx-identifying students that aimed to create a safe space for expressing and sharing cultural identity. As a senior, she helped plan and host Dickinson’s first Latinx Gala which brought together the community for cultural celebration.
The new Latinx Alumni Association will build upon the foundations Leslie laid as an undergraduate student.
As a first-generation college graduate, Leslie says she has always valued the power of mentorship.
“It is all about mentorship,” Leslie says. “I know when I started, I had a lot of mentors and support from upperclassmen that helped me get to where I am, and I want to continue this.”
Leslie hopes this new network will provide a bridge to connect undergraduate students with alumni, providing a space for personal mentorship as well as career development. She is honored to have Dickinson College’s support in this new initiative and is excited to watch the Latinx community continue to thrive.
