Posse Bay Area Welcomes Conn Posse Alum Rasheed Mitchell to Advisory Board
Posse is proud to announce the addition of Rasheed Mitchell to the Bay Area Advisory Board. The Connecticut College Posse alum from Chicago is the chief investment officer for a Bay Area-based single-family office. Rasheed brings to the role years of experience in the investment industry, having previously worked for leading firms such as Putnam Investments and Columbia Thread Needle Investments. Today, he is the founder of an investment firm focused on entrepreneurship within communities of color.
A promising student athlete, Rasheed attended three different high schools before landing a Posse scholarship. Reflecting on his early educational experiences, he says, “I was coming from a Black neighborhood that was under-resourced. In fact, most of the schools in my neighborhood were being shut down. I pretty much went to some of the worst schools in Chicago.”
His experience attending different high schools also gave him a unique vantage. “I also had the perspective of seeing schools that were resourced from going to multiple high schools,” Rasheed says. “I understood what the issue was—and Posse addressed all of that.”
After graduation from Conn, Rasheed immediately began his career in the investment industry, a field he has found professionally fulfilling. He is excited to join the Bay Area board this spring, bringing his first-hand knowledge of Posse and a passion for investing in individuals and communities that are frequently underestimated.
Rasheed says, “The one thing I know for a fact is that Posse can go across the country and find people who are overlooked and give them a shot. I say this all the time, I owe most of my own personal and career success, as well as just the ability to be happy in life, to Posse.”
