Posse Atlanta Welcomes New Scholars

Spring 2018 | Atlanta

Last January, 500 guests gathered at the historic Fox Theatre’s Egyptian Ballroom for Posse Atlanta’s annual Awards Ceremony. The event recognized the city’s newest class of Posse Scholars—60 exceptional students from across the greater Atlanta region.

In attendance were members of Posse Atlanta’s advisory board and leadership council, volunteers and community members, university partners, as well as the Scholars’ families and friends. Posse Atlanta Board Advisory Chair Jeff Abbott shared opening remarks during the welcome.

Posse Atlanta and its partners selected the 2018 class of Scholars from a pool of more than 1,500 nominees. Over 200 metro-area high schools and community-based organizations submitted nominations, demonstrating Posse’s continually expanding impact in the city.

The new Scholars are now participating in Posse’s eight-month Pre-Collegiate Training (PCT) program, which fosters academic excellence and cohesion among the Posse groups and prepares Scholars for the challenges of college life. PCT is a critical component of the Posse model and helps to ensure that Scholars transition smoothly onto campus and go on to graduate.
