Posse Atlanta Welcomes 60 New Scholars at Historic Fox Theatre

Summer 2019 | Atlanta

This past January, Posse Atlanta celebrated 60 new scholarship recipients during its annual Awards Ceremony, held at the historic Fox Theatre. The six new Posses were welcomed by an audience of nearly 500 people that included family and friends, community leaders, school officials and other supporters.

Posse Atlanta along with its college and university partners—Bard College, Boston University, Brandeis University, The College of Wooster, The George Washington University and Texas A&M University—selected these young leaders from a competitive pool of over 1,400 students nominated by more than 200 high schools and community-based organizations in metro Atlanta. The newest class of Scholars were awarded a total of $12.1 million in full-tuition leadership scholarships.

These brilliant young leaders will guide us to the change we need.

During the event, Posse Atlanta Advisory Board Chair Jeff Abbott, executive vice president at Infor, welcomed the Scholars. In his remarks, Jeff emphasized why he and so many other business and community leaders are investing in Posse Scholars, both personally and on a corporate level.

“We believe in the hope of the next generation,” Jeff said. “These brilliant young leaders will guide us to the change we need as a nation and in the world.”

The new cohort of Scholars are now participating in Posse’s eight-month Pre-Collegiate Training Program (PCT), which fosters leadership, academic excellence, cross-cultural communication and camaraderie. The sessions encourage dialogue and inspire Scholars to thrive in college and beyond. PCT is an essential component of the Posse Program and helps to ensure that Scholars transition smoothly from high school to college.

The newest Posse Scholars will begin classes on their respective campuses this fall.
