Posse Atlanta Celebrates Class of 2020
Posse Atlanta celebrated 56 graduating Scholars at virtual graduation ceremonies held this past May. They were joined by over 300 supporters, including college and university presidents, provosts, trustees, faculty, staff, family and friends.
The ceremonies spanned six virtual graduations, one for each of Posse Atlanta’s partner institutions: Bard University, Boston University, Brandeis University, The College of Wooster, The George Washington University (GW) and Texas A&M University. This year marked the graduation of the inaugural Posse from GW.
The graduates are valued members of Posse’s dynamic leadership network.
Posse Atlanta recognized the 2020 graduates as campus and community leaders, honor students, commencement speakers and fellowship recipients. The events also acknowledged the students’ strength and perseverance navigating extraordinary challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Today is really special. This is truly about celebrating our Scholars and recognizing their accomplishments over the last four years,” said Posse Atlanta Director Zenith Houston at one of the virtual ceremonies.
Posse’s Graduation Ceremony is an annual event, the culmination of four years of undergraduate studies. It marks the students’ transition from Posse Scholars to alumni.
Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial joined as a special guest at the graduation ceremony at her alma mater, Brandeis University.
During each ceremony, Posse Atlanta staff presented a slideshow with photos and information about each graduating Scholar, including fields of study and key accomplishments. The celebrations included an open-mic portion, where family, friends, and Scholars shared words of encouragement and appreciation. The graduates each received a Posse diploma and additional tokens as they were officially welcomed into the Posse Alumni Network.
With the addition of the Class of 2020, there are now 350 Posse Atlanta alumni. The graduates are valued members of Posse’s dynamic leadership network in the greater Atlanta region.
