Posse Atlanta Celebrates 1,000th Scholar, Expands University Partnerships
Posse Atlanta marked a historic milestone this January at its 19th Annual Awards Ceremony, celebrating the selection of its 1,000th Scholar and the addition of two new college partners—Vanderbilt University and Carleton College.
The achievement comes amid record-breaking nominations for the Posse award. This year, Posse Atlanta received 1,640 nominations from more than 150 high schools and community-based organizations. From August through December, nominees participated in Posse’s signature Dynamic Assessment Process, an innovative group-based evaluation model designed to identify leadership and potential. Ultimately, 60 students were awarded full-tuition leadership scholarships from Posse Atlanta’s partner institutions—an investment totaling $16.7 million.
The expansion of partnerships with Vanderbilt University and Carleton College marks an exciting new chapter for Posse Atlanta. Beginning in fall 2026, cohorts from both Atlanta and Miami will join Vanderbilt’s existing Posse communities from New York and Houston. This growth will bring Vanderbilt’s annual incoming Posse class to 50 students and support a total of 200 Scholars on campus.
Posse Scholars have made a positive impact on Vanderbilt University’s campus for over 35 years.
“Posse Scholars have made a positive impact on Vanderbilt University’s campus for over 35 years. I look forward to seeing how the new cohorts of Posse scholars from Atlanta lean into this legacy and make Vandy an even better place to learn,” says Dr. Jeremi London.
Vanderbilt’s commitment to Posse dates back to 1989, when it became the Foundation’s very first partner. With the addition of Atlanta and Miami, it now stands as the only current partner recruiting from five distinct cities—and just the second institution in Posse’s 36-year history to reach that milestone.
“To me, being selected for Posse means being part of a family—one that supports each other during and after college,” says Vanderbilt Scholar Laila Shannon. “Being at the ceremony was an amazing moment. It showed how much this achievement means, not just individually, but for our entire cohort.”
Carleton College also deepened its longstanding partnership with The Posse Foundation by adding Atlanta as a new recruitment city. Since first joining Posse in 2000, Carleton has demonstrated a sustained commitment to building diverse and dynamic campus communities. As the college celebrates 25 years of partnership, its expansion to Atlanta reflects both a continuation and an evolution of that mission—welcoming a new generation of Scholars who will contribute to its culture of excellence.
Vanderbilt and Carleton join Posse Atlanta’s established university partners—Bard College, Boston University, Brandeis University, and The George Washington University. Together, these institutions form a national network dedicated to identifying, supporting, and empowering exceptional young leaders from public high schools.
As Posse Atlanta celebrates this milestone year, the organization looks ahead with momentum—continuing to open doors for future Scholars and strengthen pathways to leadership, opportunity, and impact.
