Notre Dame Scholar Serves as VP of Student Elections

Spring 2018 | New Orleans

Posse Scholar Shady Girgis is serving the student body of the University of Notre Dame as the Judicial Council’s vice president of elections. He was nominated last April and approved by the student senate.

Shady oversaw the freshman class council election in the fall. In the spring, he will oversee residence hall elections— where each of Notre Dame’s residential communities elect representatives to the student government—and the general election for student body leadership.

Shady assembled an 11-member election committee to ensure candidates follow the Constitution of the Undergraduate Student Body and to resolve campaign disputes. He will moderate a debate between candidates this spring.

Shady, who is majoring in neuroscience and behavior and working on a minor in poverty studies, says student government shows the impact of working on policy.

"I enjoy working to guarantee that elections are fair and that they work," he says.
