Los Angeles Welcomes Newest Class of Scholars
Last January, Posse Los Angeles welcomed 93 new Scholars from the greater Los Angeles area during an Awards Ceremony held at L.A. LIVE’s Regal Stadium downtown.
The high school seniors were awarded over $17 million in full-tuition leadership scholarships from Posse’s partner colleges and universities. Three of Posse’s elite university partners selected an extra Scholar (11 instead of 10), commitments which made for an additional $750,000 in scholarship contributions to the Posse program.
This year’s Awards Ceremony was sponsored by Shawmut Design and Construction. The event included over 600 attendees, including esteemed members of the Posse Los Angeles Advisory Board and the Posse Board of Directors. The event recognized achievements of the newest class of Scholars, highlighting academic accomplishments and demonstrated leadership skills.
In addition to recognizing the hard work and dedication that led to students being selected as Posse Scholars, the Awards Ceremony paid tribute to families, friends, and nominators who have supported Scholars through the process and in their lives. University officials and notable alumni were also invited to the event, personally welcoming the new class of Scholars as ambassadors of their new on-campus communities.
“Our 2018 Scholars are an incredibly talented and diverse group of young leaders in their high schools, communities and families,” says Posse Los Angeles Director Tamara Craver. “We are so grateful to the families, school administrators and community leaders for supporting these Scholars and encouraging them to pursue personal and academic excellence, to ultimately bring them to this remarkable achievement of becoming a Posse Scholar.”
After completing Posse’s eight-month Pre-Collegiate Training program this summer, the new Scholars will matriculate at Posse Los Angeles partner institutions: Bucknell University, Dickinson College, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, Kalamazoo College, Middlebury College, Northwestern University, Pepperdine University, Tulane University, University of California, Berkeley, and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
