Hamilton Scholar Serves Community, Pursues Law

Winter 2019 | Miami

Diana Perez, a world politics major and art minor at Hamilton College, has been focused on making a difference on campus and in the school’s surrounding community.

As a sophomore, Diana is the Class of 2021 representative for Hamilton’s Student Assembly, where she presents her classes concerns and interests and collaborates to represent all students. The group has worked to develop solutions to issues like mental health, safety responses to campus shootings, and housing.

“I am so honored to be a Posse Scholar and represent the values of the foundation through my work at Hamilton,” she says.

In addition to Student Assembly, Diana is a community service intern at On Point for College, a nonprofit in nearby Utica, where she helps first-generation students pursue higher education. She is also a network associate on the Hamilton Career Center’s Government and Law Connect Team.

“I help Hamilton students develop networking skills and apply for opportunities in the government and law industries,” she says. “We also plan events with alumni.”

Taking advantage of such opportunities herself, Diana spent last summer interning for the 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida. The experience piqued her interest in defending human rights both domestic and international. Diana now plans to attend law school and pursue a career centered on humanitarian aid.
