Atlanta Scholars and Alumni Seize Opportunities Abroad

Winter 2017 | Atlanta

In 2016, more than 70 Posse Atlanta Scholars held a variety of competitive internships and research positions not only in Georgia but around the country and abroad. In addition, seven Atlanta Scholars earned prestigious fellowships. Derrius Jones and Carlyle Vincent are two examples of Atlanta Scholars and alumni making a difference around the world.

Derrius Jones is a senior majoring in Africana studies with a minor in sociology at The College of Wooster. He recently returned from a study-abroad experience in Ghana, West Africa, where he worked as a mentor and teaching assistant. He aspires to work in the field of diversity and inclusion following graduation.

Carlyle Vincent, a 2016 graduate of Brandeis University, was recently awarded a competitive Fulbright Fellowship to teach English at a local school in Greece through the English Teaching Assistantship Program. Carlyle studied abroad in Greece during her junior year in college and fell in love with its culture, people, language and architecture. This combined with her passion for teaching and education motivated her to pursue a Fulbright opportunity. She is the third Posse Atlanta Scholar to receive a Fulbright Fellowship since 2012.
