Atlanta Celebrates 15 Years, Raises $340K to Support Program

Winter 2023 | Atlanta

This past October, approximately 200 members of the Posse Atlanta community came together for a memorable night of celebration at The Power of 10 event. This year’s annual fundraiser honored Google for its partnership and celebrated Posse Atlanta’s 15th anniversary. Last held in-person in 2019, the signature event made an impactful return with over $340,000 raised by the end of the evening.

During the event, Posse Atlanta recognized Google’s Social Impact division for its powerful efforts to advance social justice. The award was accepted by Reginald McKnight, the global head of Social Impact. Google in turn awarded a transformational gift of $150,000 to Posse Atlanta.

“These dollars fund ideas, they fund dreams, they fund once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like those that got me to where I am today.”

The event also featured remarks from Posse alumna Morgan Tatje, a graduate of Texas A&M University and currently a post-production supervisor at Tyler Perry Studios. Morgan’s speech highlighted The Posse Foundation’s impact on her life and career.

“Posse’s mission to train the leaders of tomorrow is all made possible by university and community partners and generous donors who recognize the impact that each dollar has in a student’s future,” she says. “These dollars fund ideas, they fund dreams, they fund once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like those that got me to where I am today.”

In closing her speech, Morgan expressed gratitude to the community of Posse supporters in the room.

“From deep in my heart,” she said, “from the 17-year-old with big dreams, who has just been awarded the opportunity of a lifetime, who just needed the chance, the guidance, the direction. I say, with the utmost gratitude, thank you. And thank you so much to everyone here who believes in the Power of 10!”

The lasting impact of the program on Scholars was evident in the number of Posse alumni who attended. It proved to be a memorable occasion, not only for alumni in the room but also for the new director of Posse Atlanta, Jamaal Greer. Previously a trainer at Posse, Jamal returned in March 2022 to lead the site. He has maintained deep, meaningful relationships with Scholars and alumni over the years.

“The highlight of the evening for me was seeing over 40 of our alumni take time out of their busy schedules to attend the event,” Jamal says. “They are the real reason that we do this work, so I love seeing that they still value the Posse Atlanta community even after graduating.”

The event’s supporters included Atlanta corporate and philanthropic leaders, Posse Scholars and alumni, and extended community members. Posse Atlanta sends a special thank you to the generous event sponsors:
