Veterans Scholars Intern at Moody’s & Federal Reserve

Summer 2016 | Veterans

Veterans Program Scholars Patrick Hood and Brian Barkman Jr. were hired for prestigious summer internships in New York City at Moody’s and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, respectively.

For the past three summers, Vassar College senior Patrick has interned at Moody’s, a Posse Career Program partner. As a member of the operations and strategy team within Moody’s Analytics, he helped to develop short- and mid-term strategies within the organization.

“Vassar and Moody’s have helped ease the transition from military service member to college student and from college student to employee,” says Patrick. “I have been intrigued by strategic planning since serving in the Army. Figuring out how to accomplish a goal with limited resources has allowed me to develop a flexible mindset.”

During his internship, Patrick was involved with Moody’s Veterans Employee Resource Group, which provided opportunities to interact with other Moody’s employees who have served in the military.

Brian, a Scholar at Wesleyan University, helped create a new internal website during his internship at the Federal Reserve. He had the opportunity to examine how large organizations manage extensive technology projects.

“Almost immediately after I was offered the internship, Frankie Cevallos, a Posse alumna here at the bank, reached out and introduced me to the people I would be working with,” says Brian, who is studying history, philosophy, government and economics. “It made the entire process much more personal and meaningful.”

Internship experiences like those offered by Moody’s and the Federal Reserve are critical to ensuring that Posse Veterans Scholars receive exposure to potential career paths and make important networking connections.
