University of Texas Austin Scholar Michael Gonzalez plans to major in biomedical engineering.

Valedictorian to Study Biomedical Engineering at UT Austin

Spring 2014 | Houston

In June, Scholar Michael Gonzalez graduated as valedictorian from Sam Houston Math, Science and Technology Center. He will matriculate at The University of Texas at Austin this fall as a member of the second Posse to attend the school.

In addition to being valedictorian, Michael was captain of the basketball team, the robotics team, and the University Interscholastic League, which provides educational extracurricular academic, athletic, and music contests to students. He was also president of his school’s National Honor Society chapter.

This summer, Michael is interning with Edstention, a nonprofit that connects students with scholarship and internship resources in Houston.

“I am excited about the vision behind Edstention,” says Michael. “I am able to see how the organization has grown and helps students like me in Houston access more resources for success.”

With plans to study biomedical engineering, Michael attended summer programming for aspiring engineers at UT’s Cockrell School of Engineering. He plans to combine his interests in technology, engineering and medicine to one day create prosthetics.
