Showcase Event Celebrates New Orleans Scholars

Summer 2014 | New Orleans

More than 100 guests filled the Posse New Orleans office for its April 2014 Showcase event. The program included a presentation about New Orleans’ education landscape, remarks from Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial and Posse Board Chair Jeff Ubben, and a question and answer session with Posse Scholars.

“We were honored to host our local and national supporters,” says Posse New Orleans Director Monica Sylvain. “Their commitment to our mission ensures we can provide our outstanding youth the opportunity to access and excel in college, graduate, and successfully enter the workforce.”

Monica announced to the crowd of local community leaders, Posse national and advisory board members, and Posse alumni that Grinnell College will join Bard College and Tulane University in selecting Scholars from New Orleans this year. Grinnell is a dual-city partner and also recruits Posses from Washington, D.C.

The newest class of Posse New Orleans Scholars—aspiring entrepreneurs, professors, doctors and artists—shared their goals for the future and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to matriculate at Bard and Tulane this fall.

“These Scholars join a network of talented men and women who will become our country’s leaders in years to come,” said Deborah.
