Senior Scholars Prepare for Post-Graduate Opportunities

Spring 2014 | D.C.

More than 50 Posse D.C. Scholars will graduate from college this spring, joining the ever-growing Posse Alumni Network. With exceptional academic, leadership and professional credentials, they are well-positioned for success. Below highlights several outstanding senior Scholars.

Michel Ajjan, a senior international studies and economics double-major at Bucknell University, has secured internships every year with assistance from the Posse Career Program. Most recently, he interned with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey through which he studied methods to increase aircraft and passenger capacity and reduce delays at five major area airports. Michel is currently pursuing career opportunities in airport operations.

Sarah Houston, the executive vice president of Pepperdine University’s student government and a political science and film studies double-major, was recently awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Turkey. Her pursuit of international opportunities includes an internship last summer with the White Rainbow Project, which helps to provide advocacy, physical care and emotional support for destitute widows in Vrindavan, India. Following graduation, Sarah looks forward to continuing her work with organizations that focus on women’s empowerment.

Vilma Castaneda, who double majors in sociology and gender, women's & sexuality studies, discovered a love for film while taking a course at Grinnell College. She presented an original work at a national conference last spring. “Sharing my project gave me the confidence to submit a piece to Film Matters magazine, which has been accepted and will be published this spring,” Vilma says. After graduation, Vilma will be pursuing her master’s degree in film studies at King’s College in London, England.
