Scholars Learn Professional Skills at Winter Career Event

Spring 2016 | Miami

Before beginning the spring semester on their respective campuses, Miami Scholars convened for the annual Winter Career Day. With the assistance of representatives from Posse’s Career Program partners, Scholars polished their professional skills and learned about opportunities for graduate study.

National Director of Graduate and Fellowship Programs Sam Lim facilitated an interactive workshop to challenge students to articulate their goals around graduate school. Ultimately, Scholars left better equipped to make the best decisions in pursuing graduate school and the subsequent application process.

Scholars practiced their newly crafted “elevator speeches” during a networking activity with representatives from JPMorgan Chase, Teach For America, Breakthrough Miami, Deloitte and Univision. These volunteers also shared their insights navigating the workforce.

“The workshop today made me consider questions I had never thought of in regards to my career prospects,” said Mount Holyoke College Scholar Lina Zuluaga.

Scholars left the event with new skills and ideas on how to find meaningful career opportunities for the upcoming summer.
