Posse Miami Scholars celebrate the completion of their summer internships.

Royal Caribbean Hosts Internship Celebration for Scholars

Fall 2014 | Miami

The annual Internship Celebration honored Posse Career Program partners’ contributions to the professional development of Posse Scholars who held summer internships. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., a leader in the hospitality and tourism industry, hosted the event, which was attended by Scholars, alumni and their internship hosts.

Posse Miami Scholars interned and worked in various fields and organizations across the country and the world. While some spent their summers on Capitol Hill or in Silicon Valley, New York City and Washington, D.C., many Scholars also returned to Miami to serve as teachers and counselors, work for nonprofits and community-based organizations, and conduct research in major university labs.

University of Pennsylvania Scholar Tan Chan spent her summer in Hong Kong interning for the Clear Air Network (CAN).

“As a student of environmental management, CAN was the perfect place to cultivate my interest in environmental advocacy,” says Tan. “I wanted to help tackle the biggest environmental issue facing Hong Kong, my place of birth.”

Richard Fain, the CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises and a member of the Posse National Board of Directors, delivered an energetic keynote address about Posse and its Scholars. Mount Holyoke College Scholar Stephanie Maitre followed with a heartfelt account of her own career development, including her current internship with Royal Caribbean in their global sales and marketing department.

“The Internship Celebration allowed me to reconnect with other Scholars as well as truly show my supervisors what Posse is all about,” says Mount Holyoke College Scholar Valentina Botero. “I also met the supervisors of the other Scholars and understand more about what opportunities are available in our community.”
