Posse Scholarships Awarded to 41 Miami High School Seniors

Spring 2014 | Miami

In January, 41 new Scholars joined Posse Miami from the Miami-Dade County Public School system during the Awards Ceremony at the Treetop Ballroom in Jungle Island. Representatives from Franklin & Marshall College, Hamilton College, Mt. Holyoke College and Syracuse University presented Scholars with $7 million in full-tuition merit scholarships.

“We are here to celebrate the achievements of Scholars who have worked incredibly hard to be here tonight, and to celebrate all of the friends, families and educators who have raised these amazing young people,” said Posse Miami Director Nadine Dalrymple.

The emotional celebration included remarks from new Scholars, who were selected from 1,200 students during a competitive interview process, and their families.

“Today we all received keys to a door filled with opportunities,” said Reinaldo Camacho, who will attend Hamilton College. “Posse is about bringing people together to work together towards success.”

Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial congratulated the new Scholars who join 190 Scholars from Miami who have already won approximately $23 million in leadership merit scholarships. She also highlighted Posse Miami’s continued growth with Davidson College and Pomona College signed on to recruit Posses from Miami for matriculation in fall 2015.
