Internship Celebration Honors Scholars, Career Program Partners

Fall 2014 | D.C.

Posse D.C. held its eighth annual Internship Celebration at The Pew Charitable Trusts in July. More than 80 guests attended to celebrate the professional accomplishments of Scholars and alumni. In addition to traditional networking, guests participated in signature Posse activities designed to promote discussion and highlight summer accomplishments.

Susan Watson, a partner at Sedgwick LLP, was the honored guest speaker. Involved with Posse for a number of years, Susan has enabled Scholars from both D.C. and Chicago to have a rewarding and meaningful summer experience at her firm, a Career Program partner.

Grinnell College Posse alumna Vilma Castaneda interned in a variety of departments within Friendship Public Charter Schools for four summers. The skills she gained follow her to King’s College London where she is pursuing a master’s degree in film studies.

“Posse Scholars are examples of what to expect from committed powerful leaders who will help shape the future,” Vilma says. “In taking advantage of the resources and support made available through Posse, future success is inevitable.”

Posse D.C. continues to grow its Career Program. Since 2007, the chapter has doubled its internship partners and the number of Scholars hired is almost four times what it was when the local program began. Posse D.C. is incredibly grateful to all its partners for helping Scholars and alumni gain access to important professional experiences.
