Houston Celebrates Power of 10, Raises More Than $100K

Winter 2014 | Houston

In October 2013, Posse Houston held its inaugural Power of 10 fundraiser at The Grove in downtown Houston, raising more than $100,000 to support Scholars. The Power of 10 is celebrated in each of Posse’s nine cities to recognize the strength of a Posse and thank community supporters.

Posse Houston Director Kamari Brewer welcomed more than 50 guests to the festive cocktail event. Local business leaders, public school officials, Posse board members and alumni enjoyed a brief program and live music from the Jose-Miguel Yamal band.

“The event was an incredible success,” says Kamari. “Many Houstonians dedicated to creating new opportunities for youth were introduced to Posse, and they in turn will introduce others to Posse.”

"As an alumna of The Posse Foundation, it was heartwarming to speak with so many individuals gathered to support an organization that has helped me and continues to help so many others across the country,” says Vanessa Egerton-Shelton, a graduate of Vanderbilt University and a member of the Posse National Alumni Advisory Council. “I believe that with the support of individuals like the ones at the Power of 10, Posse will continue to thrive."

Posse Houston is grateful to the sponsors who helped make the evening a success:
