First-Year Scholar Grows Leadership Skills at UT Austin

Summer 2015 | Houston

Scholar Felipe Garcia set a strong foundation during his first year at The University of Texas at Austin. The business administration major made the university's honors list and was elected corporate relations chair of the Hispanic Business Student Association.

In addition, Felipe plays intramural soccer and participates in the University Leadership Network, a program designed to help students develop leadership skills while achieving academic success.

“Posse has been a great way of knowing that I’m not alone on campus,” says Felipe. “We were all going through the journey of freshman year together. We motivated and pushed each other to try our best and keep working and studying. For me, that was the biggest reward of being in Posse: having people who had your back.”

This summer, Felipe was chosen for the highly selective Future Diversity Leaders program at KPMG, one of the Big Four auditing firms. As a part of this program he attended a three-day summer leadership conference in Hollywood, California.

With these experiences under his belt, Felipe is poised to make an even greater impact during his second year on campus.
