Bingham McCutchen Hosts Annual Internship Kickoff

Spring 2014 | Los Angeles

On May 29, 2014, Posse Los Angeles hosted its annual Internship Kickoff event at Bingham McCutchen’s Los Angeles office. The event featured a panel of Bingham representatives and a workshop on how to deliver a persuasive, concise elevator speech during an interview.

Sandra Lee Montgomery, a partner at Bingham McCutchen and a member of the Posse Los Angeles Advisory Board, spoke about mentoring and the importance of flexibility in pursuing one’s career goals during her keynote address. Her speech resonated with Scholars, who were excited to gain valuable career insights.

“I was reminded that the internship is not the end goal, that it is for me to explore and consider. It’s just a piece of my career planning and goal setting,” says Caio Rodrigues, a rising junior at Dickinson College who is an intern at Public Broadcasting Service.

The event concluded with an elevator speech competition. Bingham representatives served as judges and Scholars enjoyed competing with and cheering for their peers. Mark Merino, a rising sophomore at Bucknell University, enjoyed the challenge of the task and was encouraged by the reviews of his speech.

“To have a great elevator speech you have to recognize your strengths and be willing to discuss them,” says Mark, who is interning at the National Health Foundation. “You have to believe that what you have to say is valuable.”

Posse Los Angeles is grateful to Sandra Lee Montgomery and the Bingham team for their support and participation in this annual event.
