61 Young Leaders from Houston Win Full-Tuition Scholarships

Spring 2015 | Houston

This year, 61 new Scholars from Houston were celebrated at the annual Awards Ceremony hosted by CenterPoint Energy. These outstanding young leaders won nearly $8 million in four-year, full-tuition scholarships from Bryn Mawr College, Carleton College, Colby College, Texas A&M University, The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Virginia.

Among the new Scholars are artists, organization founders, multilingual speakers, aspiring engineers, sports team captains, and student government and club presidents. They were joined at the Awards Ceremony by their families, nominators, Posse supporters and representatives from each of Posse Houston’s partner college and universities.

“You are receiving more than a scholarship here today,” said Juan Carlos Flores, a Dickinson College Posse alumnus from Los Angles. “You are joining a network of more than 6,000 leaders who are using their education to impact their communities.”

To date, Posse Houston and its institutional partners have awarded scholarships worth $20 million to more than 150 Scholars.
