60 Miami Students Awarded $12 Million in College Scholarships

Earlier this year, 60 new Scholars from the Miami-Dade and Broward County public school systems joined Posse Miami at the Awards Ceremony in the Treetop Ballroom at Jungle Island. These Scholars, selected through a competitive process, collectively earned more than $12 million in four-year, full-tuition merit scholarships from top colleges and universities.

Representatives from Davidson College, Franklin & Marshall College, Hamilton College, Mount Holyoke College, Pomona College and Syracuse University awarded the scholarships following a congratulatory welcome from Alberto Carvalho, the superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Now in the midst of Posse's eight-month Pre-Collegiate Training Program, the new Scholars are preparing for academic success, bonding with their Posses, and exploring how they can become agents of change when they arrive on their respective campuses.

In addition, the Scholars who will attend Davidson, Franklin & Marshall and Pomona as part of the Posse STEM Program—which supports students specifically interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics—will participate in a two-week summer immersion program to meet STEM professors and conduct lab work.

Posse Miami is thrilled for this new class of Scholars to join the growing network of Posse Miami Scholars and alumni.
