60 Houston High School Students Awarded College Scholarships

Spring 2016 | Houston

Sixty new Scholars joined the Posse family after four months of interviewing through Posse’s Dynamic Assessment Process (DAP). At the January Awards Ceremony, they formally accepted their four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships from Bryn Mawr College, Carleton College, Colby College, Texas A&M University, The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Virginia.

Before the audience of new Scholars, their families, nominators and DAP volunteers, Steve Wyatt, the CEO of Wyatt Energy and a member of the Posse Houston Advisory Board, spoke about the importance of empowering young leaders.

Posse Houston Advisory Board Chair Dan Pickering encouraged the newest class of Scholars to reach for greatness. He shared the story of Vanderbilt University Posse alumna Mia Howard, who won Posse’s 2015 Ainslie Alumni Achievement Award in recognition of her commitment to providing deserving young people with access to top educational opportunities.

These 60 young leaders will join more than 150 Scholars from Houston on campuses in the fall after completing eight months of Pre-Collegiate Training, a critical program component that fosters team building, cross-cultural communication, leadership development and academic excellence.

“Be open to learning about yourself, your Posse, and the world around you,” said Vanderbilt Posse alumna Vanessa Egerton-Shelton.
