TFA Houston Managing Director Joins Posse Leadership Council

Spring 2026 | Houston

LaTreal Peterson, a Posse Chicago University of Wisconsin-Madison alum, has joined the Posse Houston Leadership Council, bringing more than a decade of experience in education leadership and Scholar development. Since relocating to Houston, he has remained deeply engaged with Posse, guided by a strong sense of purpose and commitment to community.

“Posse is more than a program; it is a lifelong community that shapes leaders and fuels purpose,” LaTreal says. “Staying connected has allowed me to expand my network and build relationships with leaders who are committed to excellence, service, and generational impact.”

Posse transformed my personal and professional trajectory.

LaTreal began his career as a 2012 corps member with Teach for America in Houston. After completing his initial commitment, he remained in the classroom and steadily advanced into leadership roles across multiple campuses, including Dean of Instruction. Then, he transitioned to a District Support Specialist role with the state of Texas, where he provided differentiated and customized support to help districts increase academic outcomes. In each role, he focused on improving academic outcomes while coaching educators in research-based instructional practices and cultivating strong classroom cultures.

Today, LaTreal serves as Managing Director of Leadership and Development at Teach For America Houston, where he continues to invest in leaders who will drive meaningful change for scholars across the region.

For LaTreal, deepening his engagement with Posse Houston is both a privilege and a responsibility.

“Posse transformed my personal and professional trajectory,” he says. “I see it as both a privilege and a responsibility to pay that forward—by inspiring, uplifting, and empowering future leaders to dream boldly and lead courageously.”

His experience as a Posse Scholar continues to shape his leadership philosophy.

“Posse modeled what holistic investment looks like. The mentorship, guidance, peer community, and opportunities I received expanded my vision and fueled my passion,” he reflects. “Today, I lead with that same philosophy—building confidence, expanding access, and opening doors so others can thrive. Leadership is not about personal achievement; it is about empowering others to make an impact.”

LaTreal’s continued engagement across Posse cities reflects his deep belief in lifelong leadership and the power of investing in the next generation. Posse Houston is proud to welcome his voice and experience to the Leadership Council.
