Syracuse Scholar Joins University Ambulance Program

Spring 2014 | Miami

A health and exercise science major, sophomore Carolina Sanchez is pursuing a career focused on improving people's lives as a participant in Syracuse University's ambulance program.

“Staying healthy is very important for me,” says Carolina. “That’s why I wanted to major in health and exercise science, to study the concepts of health and physical education for myself and be able to educate those around me.”

Carolina is combining her interests in healthy living, athletics and community service in her academic career. Graduates from her Syracuse program of study are leaders in the fields of sports medicine, exercise physiology, medicine, athletic administration and physical therapy.

“Syracuse has a well-established system of support on campus that includes residential learning communities, exceptional mentors, and the Posse community, which all help me maximize my success as a student,” says Carolina.

Carolina was one of only 14 students selected for the Syracuse University Ambulance Program, which responds to over 1,500 medical emergencies each year, providing services such as intermediate life support, transport and rapid cardiac defibrillation.

“The ambulance program is hands-on experience in the health field and a perfect way to serve my community,” she says.
