Puget Sound Scholar Excels in Research, Leadership

Summer 2019 | Bay Area

Tahseen Tanatrah, a Scholar at the University of Puget Sound, has made the most of his first year at college. In addition to pursuing his studies, he helped to organize events on campus as a member of the Resident Student Association (RSA). He also served as treasurer for his dorm hall, setting up programs and securing campus funds.

During his short time at Puget Sound , Tahseen has deepened his interest in scientific research. In high school, he was selected for a highly competitive research project at the University of California, San Francisco. He knew he wanted to pursue similar research opportunities at Puget Sound, so he immediately approached one of his professors and secured a position in her lab.

I have a support network that I can rely on.

He credits the support of his Posse and Posse mentor for creating an environment in which he can take full advantage of the many opportunities at Puget.

“Coming to school with a Posse has been beneficial; I have a support network that I can rely on,” Tahseen says. “My fellow Scholars offer great advice, and without the connections my Posse mentor, Nancy, offered me, I would not be doing my current research.”

Tahseen is on the pre-med track at Puget Sound. He hopes to one day become a physician while continuing to pursue research opportunities. Next year, he will serve as a resident assistant, an opportunity offered to very few Puget Sound sophomores.
