Posse New Orleans Raises $18K on GiveNOLA Day

Posse New Orleans raised $18,775 as a participant in GiveNOLA Day, an online, region-wide day of charitable giving celebrated each June.

Organized by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and supported by lead sponsors Entergy and Baptist Community Ministries, GiveNOLA Day 2020 brought together more than 850 participating nonprofits and raised a total of $7.2 million.

In light of COVID-19 restrictions, Posse New Orleans hosted a “Virtual Happy Hour” in lieu of an in-person gathering. More than $7,000 was raised during the event as Posse supporters joined to enjoy music from a live DJ and show their appreciation for Posse New Orleans and Posse Scholars.

“During these dark times, it felt very optimistic to be around people who brought light into the room,” says Hassan Thompson, a Posse National Alumni Advisory Council representative and Grinnell College Posse alumnus. “It gives me hope to know that people are eager to support Posse, so that we can continue to break down educational barriers in New Orleans.”
