Pomona Scholar Publishes AI Research

Spring 2026 | Miami

Tinarie Dacres, a sophomore at Pomona College, recently published a research paper on the use of artificial intelligence in education in the 13th edition of the student-led Claremont Journal of Law and Public Policy.

The article, “AI Literacy and the Reproduction of Inequality in Education: Reassessing Equity in Emerging Technology Policy,” examines the history of inequality in U.S. education and argues that the implementation of AI tools without critical oversight could reinforce existing disparities. The paper outlines policy considerations for schools adopting these technologies, including algorithmic transparency, data protection and civil rights enforcement.

Tinarie also highlights the role of community input in shaping policy, encouraging lawmakers to engage teachers, parents and students through forums such as town halls. He has explored these ideas through his work founding The On AI Platform, a nonprofit organization focused on expanding access to artificial intelligence and supporting inclusive development practices.

He will present his research to a panel of Pomona College politics professors alongside other students featured in the journal, offering faculty the opportunity to consider student perspectives in their academic work and engagement with policymakers.

Since high school, Tinarie has been interested in the relationship between technology and society. As a Posse Scholar, he attended Pomona College, where he developed an interest in public policy, particularly at the intersection of science and technology. He plans to pursue a career in academia, conducting research and advising policymakers on the use of technology to expand opportunity.
