New Orleans Students Awarded Full-Tuition Scholarships to Bard & Tulane
Posse New Orleans welcomed more than 100 guests at the annual Awards Ceremony in January to celebrate the addition of 20 young leaders to the Posse family. Partner institutions Bard College and Tulane University awarded four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships worth $3.6 million to these exceptional students who join 40 Scholars already on campus.
Identified for their academic ability, leadership potential and motivation to succeed, new Scholars were selected from more than 500 nominated students from Greater New Orleans.
“Posse New Orleans collaborated with 93 percent of public high schools in the Greater New Orleans area,” says Monica Sylvain, the director of Posse New Orleans. “We are thrilled these 20 young leaders will join our other Posses to make an impact on campus life.”
“Posse means an opportunity to be the first-generation college student on both sides of my family,” said Marlon Nunez, a Scholar in the newest Tulane Posse. “Without Posse, I would have probably never been able to attend college. It feels amazing to know that I will have nine other Scholars supporting me throughout my four years at Tulane University.”
Scholars now embark on eight months of Pre-Collegiate Training with their Posses. When they arrive on campus, they will be well prepared to support each other, get involved in campus organizations, encourage dialogue, and succeed academically.
