Mount Holyoke Scholar Effecting Change On, Off Campus

Spring 2018 | Miami

Marisol Fernandez de Cordova enjoys giving back to her community, whether that be on campus at Mount Holyoke College, or in her hometown of Miami, Florida. Currently studying towards a degree in management, Marisol plans to move back to Miami after graduation and work with education-related non-governmental organizations that provide opportunities to often overlooked student groups.

This past summer, Marisol worked for Major League Baseball as an attraction manager at the 2017 All Star Fan Fest. In this role, she worked with volunteers to help ensure the convention ran smoothly and that attendees had a memorable time.

“Being a student at a historically women's college makes me really proud.”

“It was the highlight of my summer,” says Marisol when asked about her role, elaborating that she appreciated connections she made and the experience managing and working with others.

On campus, Marisol has been active with the Student Government Association (SGA), serving as a hall senator in her first year and now currently as the public relations officer on the executive board, where she is responsible for all social media of the SGA.

Marisol also joined MEChA de Mount Holyoke, an organization which seeks to empower the Chicana/o community through political activism and education.

“Being a student at a historically women’s college in general makes me really proud,” says Marisol. “I love to think that we have made our own space in a place that was not originally intended for us and have reaped the benefits of it for generations to come.”
