Miami-Area Students Win College Scholarships Worth $11 Million

Spring 2015 | Miami

At the annual Posse Miami Awards Ceremony in January, 61 young leaders from the Miami-Dade Public School and Broward County Public School systems accepted Posse Scholarships worth nearly $11 million. New Scholars will attend Davidson College, Franklin & Marshall College, Hamilton College, Mount Holyoke College, Pomona College and Syracuse University.

Davidson and Pomona will welcome their first Posses from Miami in the fall. Joining Franklin & Marshall, these colleges select Posse Miami Scholars majoring in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The Posse STEM Program, which includes seven additional institutions that recruit Posses from other cities, offers Scholars traditional Posse programming plus a two-week summer immersion program, a STEM faculty mentor, and research and internship opportunities in STEM fields.

At the ceremony, Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial and Board Chair Jeff Ubben congratulated the new Scholars who were selected from a pool of 1,400 nominated students. They join nearly 200 Scholars from Miami who have already won $29 million in leadership scholarships. Together, they will be a tremendous asset to their campuses and communities.
